Why we leave blank walls blank

Empty plaster is not unfinished. It is a resting place for the eye — and for the person sitting under it. We leave walls blank on purpose, even when a mood board begs for a print, a shelf, a second colour.

Proportion first, decoration later

If the room is the right size, you do not need a gallery wall to make it feel considered. Daylight moving across one plane is already a sequence. Add too many objects and you interrupt that sequence. Guests often arrive planning to photograph every corner and leave having photographed the same wall at three different hours. That is the point.

How to live with a blank wall

Hang nothing for the first two days. Sit where the light changes. If you still want a picture, you will know which wall earned it. Most people do not. The cabins are reserved for the second group. Request a stay if you want to try a room that does not compete with you.
